My friend was given this old gun. He plans on using it as a mantle piece. He was curious to find out more about it though. It doesn't have any markings on it that would identify make or model. It looks to be rifled but pretty shot out.

Looks a lot like a 44 cal muzzle loader replica that I had in the late 70s. Sorry I can be no help.
Modern repro. Not 'shot out' but has shallow rifling lands and is meant for cloth patched round lead balls. Could be cleanend up and shot again most likely. Not a high value item from the looks.
Thanks. I don't think he has any plans on shooting it. He just wants to hang it above the fireplace for decoration. I think it would be fun though. As long as it didn't go boom in my face of course.

Better than anticipated for sure. Planning to go the show in Savannah this weekend. Hate the catheter but it's temporary.
As someone said, modern reproduction with a 2 piece beech stock. Pull the barrel off and there should be some proof marks on the bottom flat. They will identify the country of manufacture.
