***need help with I believe is WWII rifle

Ok so I bought this about 30yrs ago and actually forgot about it till mom said she had stuff in the basement that’s mine.
Anyways, I don’t know anything about it other then I remember getting it from a grandfathers hardware store that sold guns. Here is all I have. There really isn’t any other markings on it other then what’s in the pictures. Don’t even know what caliber it is but it’s cycles fine and other then some old surface rust and a broken stock i think it would fire just fine. Bore is clean.
What is it? Possible caliber? Is it worth fixing?

Definitely a sporterised French MAS 36 prob in 7.5 French but some did get converted to 308

makes sense. I was able to get a better pic of the side. No marks on the barrel but I don’t know if i will ever shoot it. Is it worth having it refinished? I don’t mind having it cerakoted or reblued if there is some value in the gun.

being that it's sportsterized the collector value is gone. Id leave it the way it but that's just me.

Can't tell if the barrel has been cut, but you can get an upper handguard at Sarco.

Rifle is way to rusted/pitted to ever reblue. In that condition if it was in 100% original configuration it would be being 400-500 bucks in its current configuration it's a sub 200 dollar rifle still worth a good bit more then 35 bucks you probably paid for it.
