Kennesaw,
I ordered a service grade M1 Garand this past summer and got a SA in very good condition. One note in the package said SA-6/45 and another stated Dec 1943 which I haven't resolved yet but can.

The stock appears to have not been used in combat as there are a few scratches and a few dented places, but overall makes me think it could have been used only in training with a minimum of handling.

The barrel, 4+ TE and 0 ME looks very good, but with no date markings., only what I understand as drawing numbers located on the top of the barrel beginning about 3 inches forward of the throat whic are D 35448-35-Y-225-B M. On the right side of the barrel about 2 inches forward of the throat is a Z

The operating rod is marked IHC and the bolt and trigger group SA.

Are there any Garand barrels that don't have a date stamp?

Thanks,

Mtnsmith

Serial number lookup indicates rifle was manufactured in April 1944. Can't believe two incorrect dates listed on CMP paper work. One was on the blue tag attached to the case.

Somewhere there should be a marking on it with that date. But not on what you said. Probably a replacement somewhere in its rebuild life. As long as it shoots to your satisfaction, why worry????

Hard to tell without pics but it sounds like a Buffalo Arms or Marlin replacement barrel. Those typically have the revision numbers on the top, kind of a rare post-war refirbishment barrel.

Mine doesn't have the BA at the end of the numbers although it does have a B. Then there is an M about an inch after the B. There is also a M about an inch in front of the numbers that is rotated 90 degrees. I wonder if these M's could indicate a Marlin.

That drawing number also appears on SA barrels but the month and yearvwould be visible if you pull back the op rod if it were SA. Does it have a flaming bomb stamp anywhere on the barrel?

Doesn't have a flaming bomb; I was in Ordnance corps in the '50's and we called that a Pxs pot!
