I was about to throw a gun out for sale and wanted to list it for a fair price. The more I dug into it's value, the more confused I became. Hoping there is a Smith guy or two that can help clear this up for me.

Here is the info I know:
Smith and Wesson 38 Special CTG Airweight
5 shot
Serial number on butt 1692xx
Serial number on grip 1961xx

Is it a model 37 and can anyone give me a date and ballpark price
one place I looked at it seemed be be listed as a 1920's date, but it does not look near that old.

Yeah I found what looked to be a good source at northeastshooters, and it comes back as a 1921-22 if I am reading it right. Just wanted a confirmation. Thanks I will keep looking.

It was made no earlier than 1957 as you said it is a model 37. S&W started their number models then.

Open the cylinder and the frame should be marked (mod 37. 37-1, etc). This will help narrow down more info on it.

This is why I love this site. Thanks jeep78. Knowing where to look helps. 37 no dash. Feeling late 50's is about right.

The number on the butt is the serial number, the others are internal manufacturing numbers and have no meaning.

Thanks. You have been on the money every time. Does $550 sound about right if I include a leather holster and about 150 rounds of mixed ammo?

1957 = 117770 - 125000
1962 = starts at 295000

As close as I can get. It looks to me to be about 1959.
