Need some help on an older Beretta...

So a buddy handed this to me to check out and oil for him. He isn’t a gun guy.

Said it was his MIL husbands who was a bomber pilot in WWII.

From what I can find the 4UT mark tells me it was built in Italy and used for the German army. I found one website that stated it was made under German occupation?

SN is 550XXX

I know you guys are way smarter than me.

Any info would be appreciated.

Technical point, Germany never occupied Italy.

The barrel should have proof marks on it that will provide more information about the date it was made.

That said, the "4UT" is a German acceptance mark.
 
I collect third Reich pistols . Many of these were used by the nazis and their allies during WWII. Many remained unmarked while others have marks. People who collect these sort of firearms do not pay for a story unless you have paperwork. Go on just the merit of the firearm. That being said : that is a fantastic example . It is a great shape . Someone loved it and cared for it . Very cool piece !
