I am looking at buying a new pistol. It's main job would be CC in an IWB. I already have a P238 for pocket and IWB. I tend to wear it IWB though, because it is more comfortable. I figure that as long as I am carrying IWB, I might as well get a bigger gun. I have identified a couple of features that I would like to see, and would like some input on a model that incorporates most of them.

1. Automatic - DA/SA
2. Safety (actual safety switch, not grip safety or trigger safety)
3. At least 9mm
4. Accurate
5. Reliable
6. Comfortable in IWB --- I have a Crossbreed for my fullsize 1911, and that just ain't gonna work.

I was leaning towards a Beretta 92, but I think it might be a bit long for IWB wear. Does anyone else have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Joe

I have a S&W 3913 and it seems like it would be right up your alley. You pretty much described it to a T. Could go with a 3940, CS9, CS40, etc also.

The only thing Im not crazy about (which goes for all TDA S&W's) is that engaging the safety acts as a decocker also, so its not possible to carry with the safety on but the hammer cocked.

They are not made anymore, but a Star BM might fit the bill.

Single action with a 1911 type safety lever. 9mm. Accurate and reliable (if parts are kept in spec). Slide width is only 0.84 inch.

But still, like the 1911 type pistols, grip width will be 1.2inches plus, and thiskness in a gun is one of the challenges in concealment, as well as comfort, when you carry IWB .......IMO, these types are not as good a choice for IWB CCW as a Kahr P9 or 40, or a CW version.

A shame that they just don't fit your personal criteria.

If you're on a budget, I'd suggest a PA-63. It's my daily carry in an IWB holster. Similar to the S&W 3913 mentioned above except in 9x18 Makarov (ammo isn't hard to find, every gun shop except Wal-Mart seems to carry some). Best part is you can pick up a brand new import for around $200 plus shipping. I've run just under 1500 rounds through mine without a problem (knock on wood).

From what I've read it's a larger diameter bullet (9.27 mm vs 9.00mm for a 9x19 Luger) although there is less powder behind it (18mm vs 19mm). It's hard to find accurate data for the Makarov cartridge, but most sources say it has between 50% and 80% of a standard 9x19 load (no +P). I trust my life to mine....even though I'd prefer a .44 Mag on me at all times, this is what I carry (9x18 JHP 7+1, Pa-63).
