There is a project that I am considering and your insight and expertise would be most welcome.

I presently have a .308 Caliber heavy octagon barrel with a 1 in 10 inch twist barrel blank in 28 inches in length.
Taking that into consideration that I have a Marlin 336W with the cross bolt safety, would the 30-30 (also known as the 30 WCF) be a good caliber to use with this twist rate?

Ideally I wanted to use the barrel in a Remington Rolling Block, Ruger Falling Block, or the John Moses Browning Falling block design but those actions have been elusive to me at this point.

Thoughts?

Correction: 32 inch heavy octagon barrel.
Here are some photos that may help with your helping understand the project.

Just a thought, get a 68 Swede Rolling Block. More than likely the barrel is gonna be toast anyway, and the Mauser type set screws are cool as the other side of the pillow. For years Martini actions in oddball calibers with almost smooth (usually pitted) barrels, have been available too. Both options would work for a low pressure load like you are considering.
