Here's the deal. I recently traded a 40 for an sks. I replaced the wood stock with tapco. I think it looks pretty good but, I would like someone that knows more about sks's to look it over and make sure is is ready for the range. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

You doin anything with that old junky wood? I am working my way around learning a bit of wood working. I would be more than happy to take a crack at refinishing it for ya if you like.

Save the wood. It will come in handy when you decide to switch back. A great site to learn is: http://www.sksboards.com/smf/index.php

My SKS was my first project gun and after swapping out the necessary parts to make it 922r compliant, I'm content with its current configuration in a Tapco T-6 stock. I do have a Tapco rail kit (not installed) but I like the simplicity of this weapon. Even with a recoil buffer, my SKS would not allow a rear mounted scope. I installed a Scout Mount where the rear sight is located and have a UTG red/green dot scope which works very well. The Scout Mount (made in USA) is machined to function as a rear sight so you can pop off the scope and use irons. Incidentally, it is the paratrooper model for US export.

Thanks for the offer. But I am a woodworker as well. When I get around to it I will work on refinishing it. If your interested, There is a good forum for woodworking. It is Lumberjocks.com. They have some really nice stuff and the people on there are really helpfull. Have fun with it, very addicting!

Nice looking SKS! I bought an ultimate arms gear rear mount and scope for mine. It replaces the receiver cover. I had to modify the front prongs some to get it to fit. I know from what I have read on here that it is useless to put a scope on an sks but, there are a lot of things that are useless to install on our guns! Still looks cool though and I know I'm not the only one to put useless things on a gun!!
