New from NY...Can you spell S.A.F.E. Act?

Hi All,

I found this site through Riverofguns.com and have already met a couple of nice folks. I used to have an office in Norcross and have always loved Atlanta. I was born in New York City
and have lived in many places, but NY is my home....and it’s a nightmare. I have seen the end of this great country, and it began in 2013 with the NY S.A.F.E. Act... if you don’t know about it yet, don’t worry, you will sooner or later. I fear the whole country will eventually be in the same situation. Here’s a taste... by the strict wording of the law, if I hang a clothespin on the trigger guard of my old Mini-14 Ranch I now have a “pistol grip”. That combined with the removable magazine makes it an Assault Weapon...makes perfect sense to me. But I have almost 2000 beautiful acres and I love my home so for now I’m just laying low....
2000 Acres? Y'all hiring up there in ATL?? Lol. Welcome

Welcome aboard.

I'm from NYS, too. Lived there as a kid, and went back there for undergraduate college after 15 years in the South. Back then, in the late 1990s, all the rest of the state outside of NYC had good laws regarding rifles and shotguns. (Well, the "assault rifle" and "high capacity magazine" ban might have had some impact on newbies who couldn't find a used magazine with more than 10-round capacity, but I was up to my armpits in them, all grandfathered-in.)

It was the handgun laws that sucked bigtime.
And now it's even worse.
Courts have ruled that no ordinary citizen has a right to get a handgun carry permit for personal protection--- you have to be the victim of a verified, real, threat, or work in a high-risk industry.
Sporting purpose handgun permit applications will get you a "carry" permit that only allows unloaded and encased transport to and from the gun club or the hunting fields.
And the former "lifetime, unless revoked" carry permits became renewable every 5 years.

And the legislature tried to make the magazine limit only 7 rounds (I guess they're OK with the old M1911 design), but the courts said that's too strict-- 10 is OK.

I hope this socialist stupidity doesn't spread to the rest of the nation.
