Closed New Message alert but no new messages

Basically what the title says. Today on three separate occasions I have a new message alert at the top on my screen but I have no new messages. Not a big deal I just wanted to see if anyone else had this issue.

Could have been from a removed scammer.

Received an email notification that a user had started a private message with me in reply to one of my posts, but when i open the website, there is no message there. also user that started the message doesn't appear in a search...scammer?

Sounds like a scammer and mods removed their account and the PM before you got to it.
