No you're right but the threaded barrel lock nut makes it a snap and Savage developed it in 1958. It cut production cost and made for a very accurate rifle for less cost.

While I have not swapped a Ruger RPR barrel, I'm told if you have done a Savage 110 then doing the Ruger RPR should come naturally.

What tools are required to swap barrels on the Ruger?

An armorers wrench and action vice. The barrel nut looks super close to an AR10

Both require an action wrench and vice plus go gauge. DT and AI are way easier and can be swapped in the field.

Can you swap bolts with the RPR? The savage can swap bolt heads giving you different parent cartridge options.

I will say I am excited the Savage is being offered in long action (300 & 338). If the street price is in the $1,200-$1,300 range in them, I may need to pickup a 338LM. I wished Rugered offered the RPR in a long action as well.

It's a helluva hunting round. I can load it down to .30-06, or up to light .338WinMag, and anything in between.
