Just got this rifle today and I can not be happier with it.
It is a 45-70 Model 1873 Springfield Trapdoor Rifle Made in Between OCT‑DEC 1879 (according to serial number 116705)
I picked it up for 607.00 Shipped and have alleycat alleycat to Thank for helping me select it.
I thought the rust on the trigger guard was worse but it actually just surface and wiped up OK.
The bore is in Great shape and has deep grooves and lands and light frosting in the barrel.
It is all oiled up and ready to shoot.
Will post range report when I shoot it.
Lot of pictures so here goes.

Back in the day they shot 1000 yard match with these guns. Look at aballistic curve for the drop. Love these old guns. Too bad they wiped out the buffalo herds just to starve out the Indians. But that was the politicians, not the gun.
