Newb- first AR purchase

New to the site so don’t take me over the coals too bad. I am looking to buy, not build yet, my first AR15. Right now just looking for something fun to shoot. I am still learning a lot about this new hobby so any and all advice is greatly appreciated.

Rec’s on what to buy? Brands to stay away from?

price point up to 1k.

A couple of decent but not expensive rifles are the Springfield Saint AR series or S&W M&P 15 Sport rifles. The market seems kind of saturated though, and there's always a few dozen different rifles available here on ODT -- really nice ones too if you don't mind buying used.

Stay away from anything with plastic or polymer upper receivers. So many manufactures build to or better than mil spec. PSA builds decent rifles that dont break the bank initally and you can mod them when funds allow. But right now there have been some damn good deals on here

1K will get you in the game pretty easily. Lots of entry level AR's at affordable prices. New and Used. Smith & Wesson and Ruger come to mind.

PSA, Radical Firearms, DPMS, Aero, SW, the list goes on. The only AR I’ve ever had issues with was ruger SR556. Grouped minute of barn door even after two trips back to ruger.

Nobody has ever regretted buying a Colt as their first AR. Many if not most regret not buying a Colt as their first.

If I was buying my first AR15 now, I would consider buying a AR15 pistol. Especially useful if you have a Georgia Weapons Carry License. The AR15 pistol can be turned into a rifle later if that is what you want to do, but you can not turn a AR15 rifle into a AR15 pistol.
