NO MORE OPTICS PLANET!!

I use Amazon all the time..I have used Optic Planet before and never had a problem...I have a Prime membership on Amazon..During Christmas their was no such thing as 2 day free delivery even with prime.
Same here. Been a Prime member from the get go of Prime. Probably 70% of what I buy, except groceries and even then I use Prime a lot, is purchased through Amazon. Amazon has anti gun stances as well though. Same as Ebay, Walmart, Dicks, Academy and the list goes on.

I would assume that everyone here saying death to Optics Planet is not shopping at any of these places and the countless number of other places like Target, Starbucks, Costco, Buffalo Wild Wings, Waffle House, Comcast or Google. Most of which simply take a corporate stance against 2A rights. Absolutely no threat of any legal requirements.

How bout shopping at Walmart? Dicks? Academy?
Dang it. Pointing out our hypocrisy is deflating my sense of righteous indignation. Take it back right this second.

I like Optics Planet. I think the explanation they offered makes sense. I wouldn't hesitate to order from them again. That said, for the love of God, if a business is located in Illinois or a similar state I don't see how they don't make every effort to relocate if it's at all feasible. There's a reason the Rust Belt remains the Rust Belt and the South is booming.

Should a company have loyalty to their employees? Optics Planet has a bunch of employees, I’m sure. Stands to reason some have worked there for quite some time. I’m also sure many have significant ties to the community and would not want to relocate. I’m sure some are in it for the long haul and whatever retirement package is offered by Optics Planet.

If Optics Planet considers relocating to a more politically friendly climate, should the huge negative impact to their current, loyal employees be taken into account?

Most do. Including my employer (a Fortune 100 Company). Corporations are basically chicken-**** entities. They pretty much have to be. They are HUGE targets for shakedown lawsuits. They are not "evil". They are not necessarily "good" either. They are amoral entities with one purpose for existing. To maximize profits (generate wealth).

A fortunate byproduct of this is that millions of lower life forms, such as myself, get to make a pretty good living without having to take a lot of risks.

In our litigious society, such a big, fat, juicy target must run all decisions through Risk Management in order to try to find the safest path on which to proceed. Whether it be ensuring legal compliance or taking precautions against the chance that some evil device that they sold was used in a heinous crime.

That's just the way it is.

I was thinking of a more business friendly state. I am sure it sucks for the working people of Illinois to see companies leaving, but I can see why companies are leaving nonetheless.

I’m not talking about the general, working populace of Illinois. I’m talking specifically about the folks that work for Optics Planet and have invested themselves in the company.

If Optics Planet considers relocating to a more politically friendly climate, should the huge negative impact to their current, loyal employees be taken into account? Who should Optics Planet listen to more; their employees that have helped make them into a successful business and don’t want to lose their jobs, or a bunch of pissed off gun owners in Georgia?

I wrote to Optics Planet, and this is what they said:

Greetings from OpticsPlanet.com!

Thank you for reaching out to us, and giving us a chance to respond. We're aware of a recent rumor suggesting that we made decisions to restrict the sale of magazines with capacities greater than 10 rounds due to recent events.

We want to assure you this is not the case. Insufficient internal communication led to a misread message. We are not offering magazines with capacities greater than 10 rounds to the general public due to our location in Northbrook, Illinois, and local laws that limit our ability to sell these. Being an internet retailer serving fifty states can be complex at times, and frankly, our location in Illinois only adds to this complexity. We may not always like the law, but we need to follow it.

You can see the ordinance in question here:

At OpticsPlanet, we have never used the inflamed tensions and emotions of current events to drive decision making. Our support of the 2nd Amendment is made undeniably clear by the products we offer. We are one of the few online retailers who never stopped offering completely legal products based on public or political pressure. We do not raise prices during frenzies. We do, however, follow the laws and make adjustments when legally required.

While we wish we could be your provider of these magazines, our hands are tied in this matter. We sincerely apologize for our role in creating any confusion, and hope you'll continue to support us as many loyal customers have over the past 18 years.

Have a great day!
