I thought about "requirements for trading" or "how close do you look" or "does ODT membership matter" but I wound up with "not sure how to title this"

Here's the story and question.

I listed a pistol for sale on here at what I thought was a decent price. S&W 3913 great shape extra mag for 350. Had a bite the same day and made arrangements to meet. At the meet, I checked the purchasers ID (to make sure he was "of age") and then did the deal. We talked for awhile and parted ways both satisfied. Here's the rub....

I listed my email address (usually the best way to get me). I didn't REALLY check this guy over good, but that's not REALLY my responsibility as I see it. I talked to him about ODT and he was as in awe as I was the first time I found the site. I told him to get back with me after the transaction, so i could get another positive feedback for the transaction.

I've emailed him 4 times over the past two weeks and have yet to hear back. My suspicion is that he was a non-member who just browsed and got me by email. I'm a little bit miffed, cause I'm kinda new to the site, and positive feedback helps around here, so I wanted my 4th "positive." I guess that's not really an issue, but it seems like one to me.

So...should I verify ODT membership before doing a deal? What are y'alls experiences with a situation like this, if any. Thanks.

I do my initial contacts via pm, and ask for the same in my for sale ads. Even doing that, I have had a few members that did not leave feedback for me.
It really doesn't matter though. I'm very sure with time, I will get more.

Seem's to me you sold a pistol you advertised for free fairly quickly.
I don't see the problem. :noidea:

Gotta agree with atljetmech here. Its good that you sold it, you just dont always get the feedback. As long as your at 100% you shouldnt have a problem. Good luck with future transactions.

Good Legal transaction completed....done deal. So it might not have been an ODT Member. That's OK too. If you want to assure you are dealing with an ODT member then next time don't add your e-mail addy to the post....turn on message notifications (profile management, settings, general settings, private messaging, Email Notification of New Private Messages, Receive Email Notification of new Private Messages) and once you get a bite by PM from a real ODT member, PM them your e-mail address and continue on....

Right, I have too but the OP seems to be concerned about getting feedback from a deal and is apparently not happy that a non-member got his deal instead of an ODT member...

Don't get me wrong, I was happy I sold the gun. I guess I was just whinning a bit about the feedback thing. I guess the best advice was to keep it at 100% no matter how many ya got. And yeah, when I think of it, I would rather deal with members because better connections are made, but if I need the money first money gets it. ok. thanks.

Thanks RHJ, I got the notifications set up now.
