NRA 2017 in the books - your impressions?

Overall great show and I'm definitely looking forward to it next year. Lots of folks debuted things at the show and it was great getting to see stuff in advance.

For me Best in Show was the Wilson EDC X9. IMO they have designed the perfect carry gun in 9mm. I ordered one but will likely not have it until around August. It was the first time I actually got to hold a Wilson and to me they are in a class of their own. Nighthawks, Les Baers and Ed Browns are nice too, but to me Wilson is alone at the top. Also had an interesting conversation with a guy in the Wilson booth about a Wilson-ized Sig that he would neither confirm or deny is coming.

In the Sig booth I loved the P210 and the MPX with the 4" barrel. Also saw there is a 220 Legion coming this summer.

There was a company called Triggetech out of Canada that had some really nice AR15 triggers. They have their Frictionless Release Technology that utilizes a free floating roller. Great guys too. https://triggertech.com/

Grayguns has a new flat trigger for Classic P Series Sigs that is adjustable for both Pre and Overtravel. They only had a limited number for sale and at 20% off. I was lucky enough to get one because they're not yet available for order. Love it. Also threw their master spring set, hat and shirt for free. Great folks!

The people in the Kriss booth were fantastic. Especially Megan.

Crossbreed folks were also great to talk with and gave me a bunch of the velcro backing for my gun belts to use their v-clips which make the Supertuck pretty much invisible.

Hudson booth was also great. I've only seen videos so it was nice to actually get to play with an H9. While they were both very personable and great to talk with, his wife Lauren seemed to know way more about the gun overall, going very in depth about the design. It was obvious a lot of his focus was on the trigger, and he did a fantastic job.

The CZ P10 trigger was great. And I am biased towards CZ. But even Angus was down to earth and talkative.

One older fella, John, at Sig was one of THE best salesmen ever.

One Kimber employee was a total jerk on Sunday, but his coworker saw the way the conversation was headed and saved Kimber's reputation.

The $600 night vision IR camera setup that uses your regular scope was neat, but I'm thinking you could put that together yourself with an Instructables page.

There were so many AR triggers that I wish I'd made notes. Some were way better than others. And most of the salesmen were good.

The Suppressor company from lower PA had the most knowledgeable salesman I spoke with. He knew his product very well.

All of the staff of the GWCC were great. Friendly and helpful. The police I spoke with were all good. I got there way early on Friday and my eyeballs were floating and the GWCC was closed till 8am. I was walking to see if the Omni hotel had a bathroom in the lobby when a really nice LE officer asked how I was that morning. I told him, honestly that by bladder was bursting and he opened a side door at the CNN tower and directed me to the restrooms. I pointed to the "no weapons" sign on the door and he told me that since he was escorting me into the facility no one would say a word. Thanks officer.

I saw Dana Loesch twice in the exhibit hall, but both times she looked really pissed off. Not approachable at all. I thought that sad as she's one of the faces of the NRA.

Thumbs up to all who exhibited, set up, tore down, coordinated or helped in any way.

I had a great time, spent way too much money and met a lot of great people. All in all I'd rate the whole experience a 9 only because I wrecked my truck trying to get the hell out of Atlanta.

I really don't understand the excitement over the APX trigger. Reset was not terribly noticeable and had a fair amount of take-up IMHO.

Picked up one of the Gemtech QD adapter for rimfire cans and a few mounts. Great idea and have absolute return to zero on the guns I've tried it on thus far

Went by the Revic Optics booth as I've been trying to follow their new scope release. I was impressed with it. Should have mil/mil version out late this year. Glass clarity appeared to be excellent, but hard to tell inside. Priced right around $2,800, about a grand less than what I expected.

I have to agree with you. The feel, fit, finish, smoothness of the slide, crispness of the the trigger........I could go all day. I went to their booth wondering how anyone could pay that much for a double stack nine.....now I know why, and people are standing in line for them.

You went to the NRA show!....without me?.?.?!! :tsk:

I absolutely LOVED it! I went Friday and Saturday (and wish that I would have went Sunday). I had never been to a NRA Convention before, so while I knew it was a big deal, I had no idea just how *HUGE* it would be. When I walked in Friday, it was kinda overwhelming, LOL. I wondered around for the first 30 minutes or so until it dawned on me that if I didn't get a gameplay going, I was never gonna cover that joint.

I guess the highlight for me was simply getting to check out manufacturers that I knew little to nothing about. I'm your typical Glock/Ruger/S&W guy, really mainstream very common firearms manufacturers. Getting to see complete product lines from CZ, HK, FNH, Walther, etc. was very enjoyable. Also checking out high end firearms from folks like Wilson Combat, Daniel Defense, etc. was a real treat.

I bought some Apex trigger components for my Glock 43, a couple of hats, and flat out loaded up on free swag. I'm 46 years old, but getting free stickers still tickles me, LOL. I wanted to buy more, ALOT more, but with Blade one month away, I had to show some restraint.

The whole thing was first class in every way. The staff at the GWCC was very friendly and helpful. The vast majority of reps at the booths were super and very knowledgable. It was encouraging to see so many women, kids and minorities in attendance. The "mainstream press" tries to paint gun enthusiast as a bunch of bitter white rednecks. I saw a cross section of many different folks there, which is super and bodes well for our 2nd Amendment rights.

Bring on 2020 and Nashville! I'm ready to go!!
