Get involved. Put your money where your mouth is. Just get involved somewhere. I recommend both if possible. On a side note, the excessive mail can be stopped with one simple phone call to the nice people at the NRA. I've been a Life Member for many years, and I make a monthly donation by credit card. I receive hardly anything by mail, but I intend to keep my AR in print version. The thoughts of them asking about saving money for printing the magazines, when we all know how much they spend on mailings did piss me off. Not a one of these organizations are perfect, but without the NRA, I don't think we'd still have our guns today. Do what you can, but please do something!

The NRA is not perfect but they are the most effective supporters of the 2nd amendment at the federal level. Without them we may not have had victories like Heller vs. Washington DC and ALL of our gun rights could be in jeopardy.

Attorney Alan Gura, in a 2003 filing, used the term "sham litigation" to describe the NRA's attempts to have Parker (aka Heller) consolidated with its own case challenging the D.C. law. Gura also stated that "the NRA was adamant about not wanting the Supreme Court to hear the case".[57] These concerns were based on NRA lawyers' assessment that the justices at the time the case was filed might reach an unfavorable decision.[58] Cato Institute senior fellow Robert Levy, co-counsel to the Parker plaintiffs, has stated that the Parker plaintiffs "faced repeated attempts by the NRA to derail the litigation."[59] He also stated that "The N.R.A.’s interference in this process set us back and almost killed the case. It was a very acrimonious relationship."[6]

What exactly did the NRA do for dc vs. heller?

Some of the fire-spewers who try to convince the others that they can fight to keep their guns all by themselves are a joke.Look at the Branch Davidians.Weirdos,in my book, but they fought back on their own.Their home was burned, wives and kids killed. If the time comes when your door is knocked in and your weapons are demanded, your neighbors won`t help. You stand alone. The majority who stand alone will cave in.The very few who resist will lose. You might damage the foe a little, but you will lose and it will be a hollow victory.Crap, look how many gun toters don`t have the gonads to serve in the military. But they reap the benefits of those who do. Same thing with supporting the gun freedom orginizations. The way to stop gun control and loss of freedom is through the ballot box.NRA and others help us at the ballot box.Like someone else said,"put your money where your mouth is".

I was an NRA member for years until they came down here and almost screwed everything up with SB 308. Then they tried to take credit for it.

The NRA doesn't do sh*t in Washington. They're running on their history, that's it.

If you want to join something national, join Gun Owners of America. http://gunowners.org/

GOA does more than the NRA will ever do, and they haven't sold out in the past like the NRA. Liberal politicians fear GOA more than the NRA, because GOA gets a pit bull-like grip on an issue and doesn't let go.

What do they do beyond Georgia?

If (and this is a big IF) for some crazy reason, gun control was instituted on the national level, GCO could not do a dang thing about it in the state... Federal laws trump state laws.

Well when things get that bad the NRA apparently could do nothing about it either......that will be put up or shut up time for those that talk "Molon Labe" and those that actually believe it.

I compared sen harry reid's rating -GOA gives him and f-, and has an article about him as well. The nra likes the guy, wonder why the big difference?

I don't agree with everything that the NRA has done or positions they take on some issues or politicians they support.....Harry Reid for example. What I do think though that if they weren't on the hill watchdogging those idiots that seem to get elected over and over again our gun rights would be in serious trouble.....or maybe even be non existent. They are a powerful lobby and they ARE important in the overall fight. Support all the groups you can because they are all extremely important in keeping our rights.

NRA grades on one issue, 2a.
GOA takes more into consideration.

IMO, GOA has the edge on this one, but I can see the NRA's logic.
