*** ODT CMP range invasion version 2.0 *** October 1st.

My intent is to do some long range rifle first, and then shotguns until my shoulder can't take it anymore. Your mileage may vary.

On a different note, is anyone planning on shooting the pistol bays. I think they might have reactive metal targets in some of them, but the brochure is not clear if that's just for matches. (I didn't look at them the one time I went.) I'd do that too, if anyone else is. Pistols and shotguns on plate racks is Fun.

Im thinking about shooting a 1917 army revolver and a couple 1911s but not sure how long i'll be on the rifle range. Really hard to decide what to bring....

Please remember that if you want to use the electronic targets on the pistol range so equipped that you'll have to be checked out on them by an RSO prior to use (if memory serves). I think you have keep a certain minimum number of shots in the black at 25 yards.

Makes sense, shouldn't be a problem.

Won't be long.....pulling some stuff together here

They have several pistol ranges. There was an IDPA match last time so I'm not familiar with the electronic pistol or the active shooting bays. But on the pistol range we did shoot they have hangers for paper targets and some steel plates. A couple of dueling trees is all I can remember.

ALSO keep in mind they have no food there. Only a greedy vending machine. So it's best to pack a lunch, snacks and drinks. Otherwise you'll be eating expensive Cheetos and candy bars.

ALSO ALSO remember 1st timers need to sit through the rules and saftey class so best to be there at the open and be in the first one. Your cert card will be good for 1yr. You must present a valid card to shoot or be forced to sit through it again.

Cost I believe has gone up to $30 for the day and covers all the ranges. The shotgun games are extra. I think the 100 bird sporting clays was $35 and the Crazy Quail and Trap were $7/25 birds.

If any veteran CMP goers have any other tips for the new guys post it up for them. Let's try not to let them make the same mistakes we did on our first trip.

Your range cert is only good for a year. So if it's been a year since you've been, you will have to sit through the safety brief again.

Somebody check me on this - range opens at 9am but first shots aren't allowed until 10am? Am I remembering that correctly?
