I was just looking into credit unions and possibly trying to join one. I have no idea what it takes to create one, how it works, or if it's even a good idea.
credit unions are great. the wife and i joined after getting fed up with our banks and their fees. all u need is decent credit to join a credit union. they work just like a regular bank, except that as a member u get to be a part of the decision making when it comes to major policies and changes
They provide all the services a bank does for less money, less interest, less fees, and at times more earned interest. Mainly due to being depositor(member) owned.

most credit unions I looked into you had to live in a certain region or be an employee or related to an employee of a certain company. These restrictions left me with very few options.
