Saw a guy buying a hunting rifle at a big box sporting good store. I was there to pick up some archery gear. I told the fella congratulations on his new acquisition.
The clerk was in the process of filling out the form 4473 and comparing the serial number on the box to the serial number on the guns receiver. The manager was there double confirming the guy's ID and supervising the paperwork.
When the buyer was just standing around waiting for the staff to finish their side of the paperwork I asked him what caliber it was.
He looked at me and said "what's that?"
I said the caliber ..."you know-- what cartridge does it use?"
He just stared at the gun on the counter with a blank look and says : " I...don't know."
(The counter monkey said that it was a .30 -06 caliber, and he reached behind him and grabbed a box of cartridges for it.)
