Ok guys. Why shorten a AR barrel from 16 inches to 14.5 just to pin and WELD a flash hider to get

What about a 11.5 barrel with a bayonet permanently attached?

Does anyone remember the Rem 870 18 inch barrel cut at an angle to make a spike bayonet?

My only 14.5 was for a light weight build. Lots of difference between a 14.5 pencil barrel and a 16" m4 profile in weight.

Now I really don't understand the point of that. If you're going to have the length, why not have a longer barrel to increase velocity? What am I missing?

If you buy an upper with a 14.7 inch barrel it best to remove that short barrel and throw it away. Then install a 16 inch barrel and all is good.

Or pin on a flash hider. Gee I don't know.

And send that short barrel to me, I'll happily pay shipping

It was just a Colt barrel, you know, nothing special like a GurSpitten barrel.
