Okay I'm into watches again. Post your favorite models

I MIGHT actually get some use out of an alarm feature but that's about it. That's why ( one reason) I never wanted a smart watch. I know I would never use even half the features. But more importantly they're ugly and cheap looking. Hell as far as that goes it's the same reason I never cared for chronographs. They clutter up the dial and I don't use the sub dials. One of the best examples of that is most any Breitling. Their pilot watches have SO much **** going on in a small space it's just way too much for me. I'm not even a fan of the Daytona for similar reasons. They're just over the top to me. Only reason I really want a Monaco is that unique shape/look.
Anyway yeah I have been on the G Shock site a while back and was floored by how high they can go.
Same with me, keep it simple. When I was a kid, I thought those busy dials were cool. As I've aged, I like to keep it simple

I just have a minimalist streak as far as most things go. And I prefer a clean symmetrical dial. So you can imagine how long it took me to get used to that 4:00 crown position that Seiko loves to use. Some companies put the date window there like it was an afterthought.

My first Seiko wasn't so good. It was in the shop more than I wore it. I went a few decades before I'd buy Seiko again. So I have 3 with that 4 o'clock crown. Never really thought much about it, but you're right. I've had those 25-30+yrs now. The only watch I've bought since then was a $18 Casio. The only money I've spent on it was a band because the original broke. I've had that watch 13yrs. It has a 10yr battery.......So the package says......

I did that with Skull Candy earbuds for my three kids.
Still don't know how I feel about the whole G Shock scene. Now YOUR watches are legit as far as G Shocks go because they have all the tricks and functions. I didn't want that with mine since I generally hate digital watches. But it seems like I'm missing the point of owning a G Shock. You know like I should have all the functions of the Mud Master. Cool watch for what it is but I would never pay that for a digital watch.
So does any of that make sense at all?
These are lower end versions and very minimalist. Time, timer, single alarm, and light. That's pretty much it. The whole set was ~$100 shipped for 4x of them. They are more for random style and teaching my youngest to tell time digitally. I don't love digital but having my kids excited and into watches (my 9 year old owns ~6 including an auto he can set) is worth it to me.

that said, anyone have a place to look for cheaper, non winding watch boxes/display cases? We're up to too many in the house

I HAD a nice leather bound watch box with probably 18 slots if not more with a glass lid. Of course...that means absolutely nothing to a cat. Off the dresser it went and more than once. The last time shattered the glass and I put all my watches back in an old Amazon box.
As for kids and watches my youngest was into them but very briefly. The wife got her a metal cased Timex Expedition for a birthday present years ago. Then I got her that entry level Seiko auto with the clear case back. They had like 3 different strap color options and came in just under $100.00. I almost got one for myself but the case was around 36 to 38mm and too small for my wrist. Oh and I also scored her an original NOS Swatch in neon 80s colors. She digs all things 80s including Chuck Taylors and Motley Crue.

Finally broke down and got a damn G Shock. Scored a Casioak model from another member here. I'm gonna have to do that case/strap mod but not with the obvious Royal Oak ripoff pot metal bracelet/case. Probably go with a similar setup but with the rubber strap. That's one thing I have noticed about Casio watches. The factory straps are horrible.
I have several G-shocks, and the features can be useful depending on your needs. My favorites: Solar charging and atomic clock synchronization. Newer models have fitness features like heart monitor, steps, etc.

I have a model called the "Gulfman", a dive watch with moon cycles, tide info, and titanium parts for corrosion resistance.

My Casio Pro trek is meant to be a hiking/survival watch. It has: titanium case and strap, thermometer, barometer, digital compass, altimeter, and other stuff I can't remember.

The classic square GW M5610 is a call back to the original G-Shock, but with solar charging and atomic clock sync. It's a watch that is respected in any room of watch snobs.

I really respect the G Shock... They made the ultimate tool watch... It is a bit overwhelming due to how many models, colors and variations... Lots of styles, so many price points... But I think that is cool, because it has something to offer anyone...

Gonna do a review of this new one in the morning... Metal band and case, cool metallic green dial... nice blend of a mostly analogue watch that borders on dress style, but with all the G shock toughness and electronic features...
