Old news paper / translation 1868. German

Long story short, my dad did upholstery work. He has had this old newspaper "preserved" between two panes of glass sealed with tape.

I'm pretty sure this paper is German. From Wisconsin. What do you guys think?

I think it's awesome. Its cut in a oval shape so I'm assuming it was a chair backing liner or something.

Yes, it is German. The headline on the right side of the page that looks like two f's is really a double S. ie. the word for street is strasse. Also written straße.

Ill get better pictures tomorrow when there is more natural light. there is also a second page.

Im wanting to get these preserved better, but Im worried that it will get messed up given its current state.
