• ODT Gun Show & Swap Meet - May 4, 2024! - Click here for info

Ooooh! I’m so excited.........

So, Dingo Dingo , when are you coming ? What are the dates....i am looking forward to seeing you at the swap meet along with everyone else :cool-new:
OK, haven’t fixed flights yet, need to clear a couple of things, but the rough plan is to fly into Atlanta in the first week of May, rent a car, head down to Savannah, do Stone Mountain on the way back, a day or so in Marietta and be at ODT10 on the 16th. After that pretty well play it by ear but a few days in New Orleans on the way home. Like I said rough plan.

Thank you for the advice. We can’t stand cities so are inclined to rent a car at the airport and straight away drive out. We like the country areas, so Stone Mountain Park is definitely on the itinerary as is Savannah. We like the history of places we travel too as well as trying the local food, not sure if it’s Georgian but I’ll be looking for a chicken fried steak, haven’t had one since I worked the oil rigs so many years ago. @Wolfpenhiker recommends the Clermont Lounge but I have a feeling Mrs D would not approve.

Mary Mac's for sure. Yeah, it's in Atlanta proper but it's probably the best Southern food in the city.

Also, World of Coca Cola is kind of cool. My sister always wants to go there when she visits, and it's all the weird Coke from Around the World you can drink at the end. Very touristy but if you have a Coke fan in the crew it's kind of something you have to do.

If Mrs. Dingo is a 'Gone with the Wind' fan, Margaret Mitchell Museum on 10th St. is a great place.

Not sure if anyone cares about Muppets in the Dingo clan, but Center for the Puppetry Arts (a few blocks from the Mitchell house) had a close connection with Jim Henson, and has a lot of the originals on display in their museum.

Stone Mountain (the city) is not a great place after dark, so do that in the afternoon. People who should know tell me Savannah isn't the quaint little city the movies make it out to be after dark, or in the wrong places...Although the touristy areas are supposed to be fine.

And you can also do machine gun rentals at inkdaddys' old place if you are in Atlanta proper (they have one in Savannah too).
