Opinions/advice for sick friend

The morphed rbcs make me ask if they did a bone marrow aspiration. I may have missed that in the pages above.

I know, it's a LOT of information in the thread!

She had mention this to me earlier: They actually did 2 spinal taps, 2 bone marrow aspirations, several MRI and CT scans, blood tests, HIV test, given him blood and platelets...

What are bone marrow aspirations? I've never heard of them. Also I'm not sure when they were done...

Also some new information:

He has 2 appointments next week, one with rhuematolgy hoping to find out more there. He did have some auto immune triggers in his blood work, abnormal ANA and such.

Not sure what any of that means...

When Red Blood Cells don't look normal they'll take a big needle and actually suck out some of the liquid portion of the bone marrow from the pelvis (hip) bones (I think once upon a time they used leg bones). Then they'll send the marrow to pathology to look at why the rbcs look odd. Is the bone marrow defective? etc.
Sometimes the tests will point to leukemia, or other blood related diseases. It may also rule out some diseases.
