Optics or irons?

I'm PREP oriented. I like red dots but ALWAYS plan for them to fail. Irons on everything for those times when batteries die.

Aimpoint and buis. I love red dot scopes but you always need a backup. Also keep spare batteries for the aimpoint.

Yep, every weapon with a dot or illuminated reticle has extra batteries stored somewhere on it.

This, electronics always fail. and at the wrong time.

I hear you, put a scope on the lever gun was the worse one so far.
It completely changed the balance and point ability of the gun.

No batteries required on the Meprolight M21 which I use for 3 gun.
Love it because of that, you can never forget to turn it on or turn it off and it's never gonna leave you hanging.

This is my basic approach to most of my rifles. Less is more!

I like the idea of cowitnessing red dot with irons for combat. You can still get quick shots off with the dot but the irons are already up in case something goes wrong. That being said I haven't coughed up the cash for a red dot I would trust in a firefight so I am irons only right now.

Yea, yea, yea, that was my attitude too, then I got old.
You get to a point that no matter how hard you try or what part of your glasses you look through, you just can't make the front sight sharp anymore....

Valid point. I'm still clinging desperately to my youth though

Edit - the obvious solution is just have more than one rifle ready to go
