Anyone been through this before?

The position I'm in is being outsourced. They're currently training those taking our places and we're still here, picking up the pieces. It feels quite like sitting in the living room helping the robbers take all my belongings and offering them bags to tote it all in. I'm not sure whether to laugh or be angry..or both.

Yup. Had to train my replacement in Honduras over the phone a few years ago. Wanted to tell them to shove it, but needed the last few weeks of pay.

It's the worst kind of suck, other than being sued over a stupid fender bender when some 400lbs cow starts crying "my neck, my neck", that actually sucks worse.

Just got through that recently. Now my cat has cancer. Jesus I shouldn't have even started talking!

Have seen it happen. Sucks ass.

First for me. It's interesting to see how this works from the inside.

thats the worst. What do you do?

I work build accounts, order phones and services etc for a Voice over IP Provider for small-medium sized businesses. In a few weeks though, I might be selling the service or helping people when they call in.. I'm lucky enough that I'm not losing my job completely, just going to be moved about the company until I find something else.

That's rough. I can imagine being sued is a whole other type of headache and mess. D: Also, sorry about your cat. :(

Wow, at least they are keeping you around. That says a LOT these days!

I had a plant I worked in shut down (it was announced when I was serving in the Guard on Hurricane Katrina duty) and it was the best thing ever happened to me career-wise. Wasn't any fun at the time, though, I can tell you!

Good luck!

I hope the best for you. Train your replacement like you own the place. Treat him/her like you'd like to be trained/treated. Yes, it sucks, but the professionalism you show can open a new door or even keep you around. You never know who is watching or who might offer you a job in the future.

^^good advice here. if you become proficient in documenting processes, training manuals, etc., they will keep you around until the lights are turned off. Mgt doesn't want a workforce to have to re-create the wheel. Keep copies of what you research and publish so you can use as examples while you are interviewing. Good luck in whatever path you choose.

^^^^This^^^^ --The best thing my old boss told me was "Train everyone below you to do your job and do it better than you". Didn't make sense at the time but it pays off in the long run.
