Off and on, I have wanted to replace the 1911s I've traded away. Other than me wanting a 1911 for no other reason than it is a 1911, why would I choose it over a P220 SAO? The only advantage I can come up with is I think the 1911 has a thinner frame. Ive not shot 1911s enough to make a fair range comparison.

I have both guns, sort of. My Sig 220 is the old school stamped slide and shoots great. I've replace the springs, installed the STR, and new sights. I've had many Sigs and I still have 3. The 220 is the best shooting Sig model of all the different Sigs I've shot. Single stack and long slide...good!

I love my 1911's also. I'm down to two 1911's and they both shoot great also (both Wilson's)

Both are great guns but very different. If I had to carry a full size 45 everyday it would probably be the Sig 220. It's double action and had a decocker (if that even matters). I love the single action 1911's also but... Hell, I'd carry either one!

I mostly carry the P229 but have be considering swapping to the P220. I like the look of a 1911 and have been wanting one for a range gun. I can shoot the P220 SA if I want or get a SAO. Im trying justify to myself why or why not I should get 1911. ATM I keep talking myself out of it. I do not intend to CC a 1911 and will mostly be a range toy.

Get a 1911 and a P220 and figure out which you prefer.

For carry I will only carry a Sig 229,226,220 239,225 and perhaps some other version of the metal pistol.

Just trying to talk myself into or out of a 1911. The P220 SAO is similiar and the 1911 is a 1911. Was hoping to get feedback from those that already own both. Which do you prefer?

I have only fired the standard DA/SA P220. I like them a lot. But I own 3 1911s. And I love 1911s. I carry neither.

The Sig is a more modern design that doesn't require as much attention to detail as the 1911. Parts can be generally be dropped-in/replaced over having to be hand-fitted. You state you own/carry a few different model Sigs. You imply you are more familiar with the manual of arms the SIG platform. Rationally I would lean more towards the Sig. I do not own either platform but have shot both. If I had any inclination of possibly using it for defensive purposes I would choose the Sig. If you are looking for pride of ownership or just something you find interesting the answer is simply buy both.
