little high for the budget at the moment but thats where the final search will come to a rest.St. Croix are hard to beat.

I've consolidated and am back to a small ugly stick g2 mated to an abu Garcia cardinal i traded

for when i first found odt. Its not as compact as a telescoping rod but it works well for me and especially kayaking. I also have a dock demon setup that I really enjoy. Highly recommend these. Rods are tough, reels need replaced.. Had 2 but one is now in the Chattahoochee somewhereAlso would recommend checking out the store Wander in clayton. One of the guys that owns it is into the compact stuff and can point you in the right direction for this kind of thing.
are the Okuma rods worth a flip? i like their salt stuff.
Don't know about their rods, but their reels are crap.
never used their reels. i use shimano.
why not? they make them small enough to do so.
using them now on my 1 and 2 piece UL rods. have for many many yrs.
user error? never ever had that happen to me in 50 yrs of using them.
