Is that pattern from 40 yards?
40 yards used to be the standard for patterning shotguns for waterfowl or turkey hunting,
but lately I see more and more people patterning at 25 yards.
I tried to do 40 yards with my Marlin 55, with its 28 inch fixed "full" choke, with two different kinds of birdshot loads, my "patterns" at 40 yds. were as big as a barn door. More than 40" wide !
The individual pellet strikes were a full inch or two apart from the nearest other pellet hole.
So, I'll have to consider my Marlin "almost a Goose Gun" to be, at most, a 30 yard gun if I want a clean kill with a dozen pellets hitting the bird's vitals.
