Pediatrician questions

I'd like to if these questions are helping at all, How many "thanks doc, I never thought about not letting my 5 year old play with my loaded pistol, ill remove it from there play room" responses do they get that is not total sarcasm.

I'm a family medicine doctor. I am a bit of a gun nut.

I ask families all the time if they have guns and we discuss the safe handling of the guns, ensuring they are locked up if children are in the home, etc.

A doctor's two year old son died up here 3 mos ago when he went to his grandfathers, found a loaded 1911 on a table in the living room and shot himself with it.

You really get upset that someone would ask you if you keep your guns locked up around the kids?

Truly, I hope you're kidding about this. You couldn't possibly be serious, could you?

Stick to stuff that actually concerns you, Doc. This clearly does not.

I pray that some snoopy-ass busybody doctor will ask me this some day...

No part of medical school qualifies a physician as a gun safety expert.

I spent a significant portion of my adult life working with and learning about firearms. I am qualified as anyone to speak about firearm safety. I do not, however walk into someone's home and say "I see you have kids. Do you have any firearms in the house?"

Perhaps I'm a little old fashioned:

You should get your HVAC techs to start asking your customers if they have firearms in the house. It's the new norm.

So what next will the medical profession consider to be their business?

Power tools? Geez Doc, you gonna instruct me as to how I can use my table saw more safely? Should I get a huge safe and lock it away when it isn't being used?

I'm sorry guys, I'm really pretty much a mild-mannered cub reporter, but this kind of nonsensical intrusion really gets my goat.

Is there no group of people anywhere not trying in some way to curtail our personal liberties?

We all have to "do our part" right?

I don't have kids and at this point it seems unlikely. The biggest problem I have with this whole thing is, it perpetuates the myth that firearms are the plague of the 21st century.

Hooray for the Affordable Care Act [Obamacare]:)
There's a section in it called "Protection of Second Amendment Gun Rights"
It says doctors can't record any information related to gun ownership.

i was asked these question last week when i went to a new doctor, it's part of Obama care I think

Obamacare outlaws the recording of firearm related data. Thank the NRA for slipping that in.

One of Obama's executive orders related to gun control was to clarify that doctors can ask firearm related questions... That's true, they can ask but they still can't record what you tell them.

I know, it sounds too good to be true but the link has it in black and white.

This^^^^^ I would have stopped that type of questioning at the first question, not be proud that my kid answered them regardless of the form or manner in which they did so. Those of you who are condoning this type of government intrusion deserve what we will most certainly reap from it. This is no longer the America I grew up in.
I'm with you 100%, I think you may be getting a friend request! Lol

It's like when my daughter came home from school in the 4th grade and asked me why I used drugs. She said her teacher told her that alcohol was a drug and to ask our parents why they do drugs if they drink.
