Petition Against the ban on m855

No one there would sign.

They think m855 is subpar ammo fit only for a DPMS or Rock River jammomatics.

It groups poorly out of a Spikes/Novekse/Colt AR with poor ejection patterns in the 3:21 to 4:33 range.

They hope it's banned and quickly replaced by some expensive Hornady round to keep the unwashed masses out of their forum.

LOL

It seems to me that signing that petition is fruitless and really only serves as a notice to the federal govt that you own an AR. Might be the most brilliant plan they have ever come up with for backdoor gun registration.

I'm not trying to start an argument, but signing that can just mean you're Pro 2A. It doesn't mean you own an AR. They also only get an email address.

I don't think the petition does anything. From what I gather the government doesn't pay attention to them. The very fact that you could have multiple email accounts and sign it for each of them tells me that it doesn't carry that much weight.

I'm not sure if the petition will do any good either, but if everyone is a pessimist and does nothing, then you haven't even tried.

I think the best thing to do is to share a comment with them at APAComments@atf.gov. From another site, here is the suggested title and comment of the email:

Suggested subject: I oppose reclassifying M855 ammunition as armor piercing!

Suggested comment:

I oppose reclassifying M855 ammunition as "armor piercing."

Because of the high lead-content of its bullet, M855 does not meet the BATFE's own definition of armor piercing ammunition.

M855 is accurate ammunition that has been used for sporting purposes for many years. Nothing, including new handguns that are capable of shooting M855 ammunition, changes that fact.

Finally, the recent rulings by the United States Supreme Court that the Second Amendment protects an individual's right to keep and bear arms, by necessity also protects an individual's right to have ammunition designed for use with those arms.
