I don't blame him, and every dog is allowed one ****up in my opinion..one. Especially if you're fighting with your brother and for your life.
Lost my last one to cancer and had to put her down. Picked this one up today from animal control

Why would anyone get a Pitbull is a mystery
Other than to show off how manly they are because they have a mean dog.
to those that say pits are not more aggressive than other dogs ,
you ever see a news story about a kid being mauled or killed by a golden retriever, or a lab, or a beagle or a basset hound ?
no you have not .
so why take a chance that your harmless pit bull mix is going to hurt someone ?

roundhouse, that is your opinion and you can certainly state your opinion. I got a pit because it was at the shelter and needed a home. I wanted a medium sized dog not because I wanted to feel manly, I don't need to purchase a dog to feel manly. I liked the dog and brought him home. I had him neutered and checked out by the vet and Hank was our family dog for nearly 16 years. Never was there an incident with Hank. Although, Hank would stay between any man talking to my wife, he did not growl.
Apparently, you did not google Lab mauls child. There are numerous incidents where this has happened. So, if you are going to say I have not seen a news report about any incident with a Lab, or if you are implying it never happened, you are wrong.
Now, because more pits have been trained to be vicious, there are more incidents involving pits. I say to you that if you feel uncomfortable with a pit, don't buy one. I, on the other hand, do not feel uncomfortable around pits, and if I decided to get another dog, it will be a pit. Your opinion and mine differ, which is just fine. But don't say there are NO incidents with other dog breeds. It is foolish to say that.

I do think there's something different about the pit mixes. I'm sure many, maybe even most, are great. The ones I've had have been high strung and have a high prey drive. The pits are different than german shepherds, labs, and many other dogs we've had or been close to. One of our current dogs doesn't look anything like a pit but she's not what we thought she was so we got a DNA test. Came back mostly pit. She's great with my kids and their friends but I don't trust her like I have my other dogs.
EDIT: to be clear, I didn't trust her and then later found out she's a pit mix.

BTW, I got our current dog from a foster agency instead of the county pound. I wanted to try and get a rescue with parents that were known, to avoid a pit mix again (yep, we had a bad one). Problem is that the foster agency lied to me about this pup's parents. No doubt, it was not a mistake, they 100% lied. This dog doesn't look like a pit but DNA says it mostly is. One of the parents was full pit. This is our 5th but final rescue dog. Next one will be from a breeder so I know what I'm getting.
