Please help identify this double barrel

I'm not an expert by any means, but the lock work looks to be in good shape. A blind estimate would be somewhere in the $450-$650 range, maybe? As always, it involves finding the buyer willing to pay.

A caution to you if you want to shoot it. Even though these were proofed for smokeless powder, some chambers are not quite deep enough and need special "short" ammunition. I would definitely have this verified by a competent smith.

Heck, you never sent me those pictures. That's a "tirer l'oiseau dans le cul" shotgun from Leige Bastogne. they were often used by French resistance fighters fighting the Germans. They often have a couple of dents on the barrel and toe of the stock were they were dropped when their owner ran away.

My eyes just would not let me read the word under the forearm. I would google hammered shotgun and use the words under the forearm. If you can find a forum with people who really know a lot about these old doubles you may be able to find out the year it was made by the serial number. Have it checked out by a good gunsmith if you don't know how or what to look for before shooting it. If the lock up is to loose you could get a face full of gas. If it does turn out to be an expense shotgun and the action is loose it can be fixed and should not cost a lot if you have the right person to do the repair. Wished I could have it close up I could tell you more about it. Hope this helps and it is a beautiful old double. It's not a wall hanger.

This is a French Shotgun made in ST. Etienne France. They were manufactured starting in 1864. I have one that was built in 1866 and it still shoots fine. I only shoot 2 3/4" standard shells. I would be leery of shooting any longer shells or magnum shells. Before shooting yours, I would have a gunsmith inspect it and verify it is safe to shoot. I have found these guns for anywhere from $900 to $10,000 depending on condition and market. Nice find.
