Right! There's not much you can't improve with a dash (or more) of HP, - fried eggs, black pudding, pies etc. but there's nothing you can do in my opinion to improve my father's favorite dish - tripe and onions.

We once had that for dinner and my sister and I couldn't eat it and were told "you eat it hot for supper, or you get it cold for breakfast" He then further admonished us by adding "there are children starving in Europe"! A line used frequently in Britain after WW2.

When I got older (14 or so) he used the "children starving" line one night and I sassed him back by saying "name two" - I never saw his hand move but he rapped my knuckles hard with his dessert spoon and I'll never forget it.
