my ONLY concern with direct heat would be getting in on the piece you're trying to remove and not overheating a section of the cylinder head.

The last thing I want to do is remove the head. That will take me all of 2 days and about 36+ beers, plus I don't have all the knowledge to put it all back together. I can break stuff good but not put that stuff back together.

its a 1997 with the 4.6. I believe it predates the 3v issues.

with that being said i wonder if the same tool would work in this situation

oh snap, yeah thats true. i just saw "ford" and "broken spark plug" and that usually means isle tool lol.

til I read the entire thread, I was thinking it was the dreaded curse of the 5.4L engine. There is a reason a tune up on a 5.4L at a stealership pushes $1000.00

Yes this is exactly what I'm dealing with.. My issue is finding a square adaptor to place on top of the ez out. I stripped one of my sockets trying to get it.

I'm really debating on using the map gas on it to heat up the cylinder. I can't drive it now with it being the way it is.

Sure you can. You can pull one plug from about any engine, and it will run.

Ask me how I know.
