Post a pic & short description of your bug out vehicle

What is a bug out vehicle? What purpose does it serve. What capabilities must it have? What liabilites must be dealt with?

Lastly, why post a pic of a BOV? Why not just share the combination to your safe, what your food inventory is and when you'll be away from the house?

I appreciate the reason someone would want to share such info about their means of egress, but where does personal security come into this? When I see these vehicles posted, my natural instinct it to devise a means of rendering them useless, and it doesn't mean an EMP. A simple ditch would stops most any of them, and would slow the rest long enough to use other means to incapacitate it.

don't give advanced intel to those who would be your enemy.

But with regards to my first questions, anyone care to answer them?

Everyone has their own idea of what a BOV should be. My idea of one is something that can carry a decent amount of supplies, and blend in. A picture of our family vehicle is posted above. It's not a dedicated BOV, but it can carry a LOT of stuff, is fairly fuel efficient, blends in, has run-flat tires, and just happens to be what we bought for the family anyway. That's the way it came... and it won't be much good in any kind of off-road situation. As you can also see above, off-road capabilities would be useful, but a lot depends on where you are planning on going in a bug-out situation. Some people even buy older vehicles and keep spares of the most likely components to be fried in an EMP event, with the idea that they'll replace those parts and then leave -- those spare parts being stored in faraday cages for a better chance at them still working.

The idea here is to share ideas with other like-minded individuals about what makes a good BOV. Sure,a description would probably suffice, but Georgia is a huge place, and the odds of seeing any of the vehicles posted above on the road are slim-to-none. Aesthetics can be a consideration, I would prefer to hide in plain sight in a capable vehicle that doesn't scream well-prepared -- but everyone has their own taste and theories. Plus, people like to show off their gear, and, like I said, I don't think it's too much of a security risk.

As for pics of food supplies... I'd be more likely to share those here than tell some of my friends that I have them. Efficient storage is an important part of being prepared, and pictures help a lot. I planned my pantry based off of pictures I found online.

Operations security is important, and there are people on here that have banded together, but this can be essentially anonymous if you choose it to be. You'll get into more trouble telling too many of your friends and neighbors who don't take prepping seriously what you are up to.

Well said Buddy. I was asking for the sake of thought provocation and not for friction. I appreciate the thoughtful response. I've posted pic of my BOV before, but regretted it later as I thought it was more show and tell than serving any benefit.

I don't judge anyone for their ideas and beliefs. I just want to encourage out of the box thinking. We've all seen the "show me your <whatever>" threads. How do you expect to have plausible deniability about a rifle that you've posted all over the net?

I know where you are coming from. Thought provocation is one of the major reasons I read this forum. No friction sensed on my end.

It appears that the picture of our family vehicle vanished somehow.

It's a dark blue 2011 Toyota Sienna. As I said, it has run-flat tires and is relatively fuel-efficient given that it is almost 270 hp. It's also very roomy. We got 4 63 gallon barrels in the back WITH both of our kids in car seats in the second row.

Bugging in would be my first choice. Bugging out would be an absolute last-resort measure because we really don't have anywhere better to go at the moment. I guess I need to get on that.

My bug out vehicle is a catalina 22 with a desalinization "plant" and solar panels. Not as many people headed for the georgia barrier islands as opposed to the mountains.

I'm planning on bugging in. It's going to be pure hell out on the roads. If you have to get somewhere you should be prepared to leave as soon as possible after shtf. The longer you delay the worse the situation will become and the more desperate the people you will meet. If I do have to go out on a short excursion I have this. It will push things out of the way and go over things and runs on just about anything you find to put in it. The bed is thick steel and provides good protection for your armed companions in the back and will carry all the supplies you can pile in it.
