Powder identification resource

I've bought reloading lots from estate sales and people who were getting out of reloading. I verify opened powders with careful workups (load well below max, test with chronograph, work up). The visual comparison to the database is just another useful tool.

I have done this as well. Bought powder gets sniffed, examined and poured out next to the same powder for comparison. Then and only then does it stay. I got some powder from a buddy of various age and vintage. There was IMR-3031 in paper bags in an ammo can (Back in the 40s-60s they sold powder this way from large cardboard drums). I compared it to my current IMR-3031 and it checked out. Worked my loads up and have been shooting it ever since. Shoots tiny groups consistently.
