Picked this up a while back and got it out today to do a little cleaning and touch up.
I am about to send off to S&W for the doc's on it, i have the original paperwork where it was ordered from Stoger way back when... Its all factory, matching numbers S123XXX and i got it off a buddy, the original owner, although it spent the best part of its life under his Pop's pillow in a soft leather holster... thus the fine scratching.

I have issues with the actual model though and don't have a shooters bible/value book.
Best i can say is pre 19/27 >? 1950? The paper work doesn't say, its just called a S&W 357mag.

And the WINNER is....

It LOOKS LIKE an N-Frame...and the "S Series" Serial Number would tend to lend that supposition some credence...so probably a "pre-Model 27"...altho' I can't tell-CRAPPY Monitor, "Old" eyes--whether or not the topstrap is CHECKERED, as it should be on a Model 27 or pre-Model 27...looks like the sought-after three-and-a-half inch barrel length, too...HTH....mikey357

Mikey's on the money...pre-27. Top strap is checkered. I can't tell the difference between a 3.5" and a 4" just by pictures...but it's definitely N-frame. Hey...that could be my 28-2's father!

It's a pre-27, 3.5" barrel with a nickel finish. The grips look like the could be original (diamond patter magnas). If you take them off, the grips should have a number that matches the serial number of the gun. For additional reference, it is a 5-screw gun.
