Preference on HK P7 with which mag release

I was hoping I could get some feedback and/or opinions. What would be the preference of a HK P7 with the mag release on the heel like the older models such as the P7 PSP in the green cardboard box or the paddle style mag release up near the trigger guard on the newer models in the black plastic box? Thinking of letting a few go maybe and just hoping to see what folks here on ODT prefer.

The early PSP mag catch was exposed and I have released the mag while sitting in a car seat. The mags do not drop free, so never lost a mag. The later PSP model had a wider mag release that was covered by the grip panels. Never had any problems with this model or the P7M8. That said, always prefer the P7PSP over the P7M8.

I have only owned two, both were heel mag release models. The early versions mag release was not flush, the later models were. Not every heel release P7 was marked “PSP”. The one on the brown background is a 81 or 82, unmarked. The other is, a 1997 final run gun. Both of these are commercial models.

Tommy T ,
I have mid 80’s P7’s. Following the instructions with practice makes for a rapid reliable mag strip and reload. Once you demonstrate it to someone who’s never seen it , they get it. I think either is ok as long as you train for it until it’s reliable and fast. I like the P7 as there are no external controls sticking out, nor are they needed. A truly unique system . Mine have the thumb release flush fit to solve the accidental mag release problem.
