Protection in bear country

Heading out to colorado for the summer and plan on spending the majority of my time in the woods. Anybody have any good recommendation for a sidearm for protection. There is a lot of bear, moose and other feline predators on the mountain. Only looking to spend about 500 dollars if anybody has any thoughts.

Bear spray is scientifically proven to be the better option compared to firearms. Save your money and just get spray if it's not just an excuse to get another gun

Used to live in Evergreen which is 40 mins west of Denver about 7.5k elevation...Only bear I ever saw was digging trough my trash and i shoot him in the butt with a bb gun. I've hikes in montana, California, and many other places in the west where bears live... Never seen on while hiking. Bear spray should be just fine. But you do what you feel you need to, but i would recommend the chest rig if your going be going distances. It will be more comfy and easier to get to.

In reality you just need a long stick to hit your hiking partner in the knee as a sacrifice while you get away:thumb:

As mentioned, a used Glock 20, or perhaps a Rock Island 1911 10mm. If mag capacity isn't an issue, go with the G20.

Not been in this situation but I can't imagine there are too many bear problems that a Glock 20 loaded with 14 rounds of Underwood extreme penetrator wouldn't resolve. There have been several nice 20's on here in the $400-$500 range lately. I have medium large hands and find the sf model a more comfortable fit. The Gunfighter's Inc. Kenai chest holster makes for a comfortable, easily accessible woods holster.
Do you happen to know if the Kenai G20 holster will accommodate a G40 M.O.S.? I've been thinking about ordering one with extra holsters for my G20, G40 M.O.S., Kel Tec PMR30 and my 500 S&W 4"

It will, mine fits both my 20 and 40 mos. about an inch of the slide does protrude through the bottom of the holster on the 40 mos. I ordered mine for the 40, I think the kydex sheets they are forming from are not long enough to accommodate the full slide on the 40.
