Heading out to colorado for the summer and plan on spending the majority of my time in the woods. Anybody have any good recommendation for a sidearm for protection. There is a lot of bear, moose and other feline predators on the mountain. Only looking to spend about 500 dollars if anybody has any thoughts.

only regulation i have read about it is that the cartridge needs to produce 550 ft-lbs at 50 yards to be legal to carry while hunting, nothing about mag cap. I do not plan on doing much hunting as it will not be big game season this is only for self defense. I suppose I should look more into it to clarify.

Not been in this situation but I can't imagine there are too many bear problems that a Glock 20 loaded with 14 rounds of Underwood extreme penetrator wouldn't resolve. There have been several nice 20's on here in the $400-$500 range lately. I have medium large hands and find the sf model a more comfortable fit. The Gunfighter's Inc. Kenai chest holster makes for a comfortable, easily accessible woods holster.

For $500 I agree with the 20sf recommendation and a chest rig.... I swapped from the 20sf a few years back and now carry a Taurus Raging Bull Ultralight in 44mag... NOT a fun gun to shoot due to weight but it is a breeze to carry!

I like a Ruger wheelgun in .41 Magnum, .44 Magnum, .480 Ruger, .454 Casull, .45 Colt, or similar.

Another vote for the Gunfighter’s Inc. Kenai chest rig.

Reminds me of a story......I’ll post it separately, don’t wanna hijack this thread.
