So, once upon a time, I thought I’d channel my inner warlord and terrorize the local indoor range. You know the type—super loud, tiny barrel, and absolutely zero ability to hit the broad side of a barn. Enter my 7.5” barrel shooting 5.56… which, in hindsight, was like trying to tame a fire-breathing dragon with a squirt gun. Awful.
Fast forward a few years, and I’ve evolved. I’ve matured. I’ve become a man who enjoys peace, quiet, and maybe the occasional nap. So, naturally, this ridiculous upper needed a glow-up. I decided it would serve a new purpose: my dedicated, whisper-quiet .22lr upper.
First things first, I had to perform a minor exorcism on this beast. I removed the handguard containing an integrated blast can (because obviously, that’s necessary… eye roll) and then had to cut off the barrel nut. I’m pretty sure PSA hired a gorilla to install that thing because it was torqued down like it held the secrets to the universe.
Next, I yanked out the gas block—because who needs that for a .22lr blowback? Gas going through the tube would’ve been more wasted than me at last year’s holiday party. I tapped the gas port, sealed it with a set screw and vibra tite like a true gumsmiff. Slapped on a longer handguard, and the SilencerCo Sparrow tucks in there like it’s getting cozy for a nap.
Finally, I took it out for a spin today. It was flawless. The thing is so quiet, it’s like it doesn’t even know it’s a gun. More like a polite suggestion than a firearm—quiet as a mouse fart.
