Our local PD just busted a guy passing phony bills and ripping people off. The thief thinks he slick. He has the money folded in a way that shows the big dinero value only, the $100 or the $50 is showing. The item is exchanged at the same time the money is exchanged with our victim and the thief quickly walks off. By the time our seller opens up the folded cash, he realizes that it doesn't look quite right. It doesn't feel quite right. It doesn't smell quite right. It's close, but what the heck is that red Chinese writing on the left side of the bill? It's almost as if ole Ben is looking at you saying tsk, tsk, tsk to himself. On another note (see what we did there?) and a more realistic one, is the $100 bill that is clearly marked "Motion Picture Use Only" where it should say "The United States of America" on an authentic bill. And no, that doesn't mean you can use that bill to go to the movies. $100 would cover the cost of a movie ticket and popcorn anyway. Another subset of this scam is when the thief wants to purchase an item for some value less than $100. "Hey, do you have change for a $100?", he asks. "Sure," our mark says and hands the guy $60 change in real cash. So now our victim is out the product he was selling plus the cash he gave the thief.
