Public Gun Range Etiquette

Walk in and piss off a complete stranger then walk in front of him and his loaded rifle... Good strategy :thumb:

He was being an ass, but there are crazy people everywhere. I usually try to avoid having them focus their crazy in my direction. I came about this over time - I used to be the first to point out rude behavior, but they never learn.

People at the public ranges can be a hassle. I was at the same place the other day and taking my time getting a grouping and this new guy comes up with "hey can I call it cold". And I'm all like "chill!" and then he paces around and then everybody starts yelling and running downrange. Crazy stuff.

Not even close to one of my :other guy stories" nice try...lol

He was a douchebag….THAT range is the reason why I NO LONGER frequent public ranges…

I had a very similar incident happen, call range cold, take about 10 steps down range and I hear a slide DROP BEHIND ME!! I look back and this guy is about to shoot down range! I yelled for him to put the gun down and he looked at me with a straight face and said the following:

"You are on the rifle range, I am shooting on the pistol side…."

I went back to the shoot house, gathered my stuff and my son and left….you were in the right, but guys like that are the same ones that will be finger banging their new assault weapon while you are down range….BE SAFE OUT THERE!

OH- I did not walk in front of the bench until he put his AR pistol down. The funny part is, I carry my pistol down range with me. (Holstered) If some idiot shoots down range while you are (down range), is it at that point "stand your ground" goes into effect? :p

I had a similar experience except the other way around. Some guy had a revolver of some sort and wanted to call the range cold after every 6 rounds he fired so he could swap targets.
