I've seen a couple barrel clamp on things, but if you want it to hold a consistent zero you need to change the gas block.

never had to do that so dont know what all that entails and how much $ goes into it all

If you're looking to increase your sight radius (helps in aiming precisely) you could buy one of several "sight tower blocks) or gas blocks that have an ID the same as the OD of your barrel at the point where you want it I stalled. I had this set up on a dissipator and won several matches with it. Mid length gas system was under the free float rail and the "inert" gas block to which my front sight was mounted was way forward of the hand guard.

Yes, just mount it forward of the gas block. Itll look goofy but be fully functional. Be a good idea to pin it in place.
