Have a 1996 Dodge Ram 1500, 5.9, 2wd with 8ft bed. Low miles vehicle passed down thru the family. We use it for building materials, dump runs, towing a trailer to the boat ramp, hauling loads of mulch, rock, etc. It rarely sees the highway.

Shocks on it are pretty well done in and need replacement.

Any thoughts on best brand/setup for described use? I prefer a smooth ride, but again, this vehicle doesn't go far, and most important, it has to be able to handle a lot of weight in the bed, particularly when we get mulch from the county dump about 15 miles away.

Feedback appreciated.

Thanks, all. A couple of gear heads I know recommend mono-tube shocks; said they are generally higher quality and last longer. I found a "buy 4 get a rebate deal" on KYB mono shocks at Rock Auto.

Bilstein would be my first choice. It is easy to find 5% off codes for Roackauto and check amazon. I found the whole package fronts and rears at one price on amazon for a recent project
