Thanks everyone for your ideas and best practices for refinishing. I decided to use a very small amount of stain (early American, I didn’t have walnut on hand) and immediately wipe away. After that and 3 coats of BLO I think I’m satisfied. Before I did any of this I used a mixture of first citristrip (not a huge fan, thought it might be less harsh on the wood) And then boiling water to remove the remaining stain.

Even though I'm not a fan of refinishing I must say you did it tastefully; looks great!
