Yesterday out of the blue my older brother gave me a Remington 700 30.06 on a sniper looking stock with a huge scope, bipod and quite a bit of ammo. I have no knowledge of higher caliber rifles or the value.
He said he's never fired it and knows he never will so he wanted me to have it along with a really nice Ruger 10/22, black stock with stainless barrel, scope, ammo and some 25rnd mags, a Mossberg 835 mag with side saddle with collapsable stock and a really nice gen 3 Glock 26 I gave him many years ago. He's never fired any of them. I'm blown away by the gifts but at the same time I feel funny about accepting them.
I have no idea the value of any of them though I did see another Remington 5R 700 looked exactly like it. I'll put up some pics later today

I stole this pic from 144P&Y. It's the exact same rifle but in 30.06

Definitely not a $2200 gun. The bolt gun world has become saturated with truly quality rifles and components. Chassis/stocks, actions, barrels, triggers. It's a good thing, but old bolt guns that people paid a grand for 7 years ago just aren't worth that with what is available today. Not to mention something chambered in a more modern cartridge than 30-06 or 308.

That said, still a helluva gift. I'd be lucky to get a 50 rd box of 9 out of my sibling.

Did the 5R ever come in .30-06? I’m only aware of the 5R in .223, .308, 6.5, and .300wm.

The 5R is a solid deal in the $800-$1200 range and I’m a Remington 700 5R fanboy.
