From reports I've read, that car is registered to somebody else entirely.
There will be no gun band. A ban, perhaps....that remains to be seen. 
This whole 'which gun' thing is old news. Make no mistake, those seeking bans dont care about any facts
related to this story or any other for that matter. They are only interested in fueling their agenda.

They could find out that he used a Black & Decker drill at this point... the facts are basically irrelevant now.
No one believes that the proposed legislation has anything to do with actually preventing crimes like these. At this point it's the political realities that will decide what does and doesn't get passed into law.
If you haven't gone there yet, Congress.org is a great way to contact your state and federal reps. Here in GA, we have pretty solid Senators on 2A matters, but the reps and the state legislators need to get constant reminders from us.
Give that site a try, it's easy to use and is run by Congress, so your email address won't be getting sold in a list (they'll just send the black helos).

How long before this story is scrubbed, no, completely obliterated from the internet?
It doesn't matter what gun it is or for what reason someone has it in their car when a crime is committed, it will get blown out of proportion by the media. A good example was a couple of weeks ago in Albany, the headline read " DANGEROUS GUN found in drug bust!". The dangerous gun was a gsg5 with a 100 round magazine, never mentioned it was a .22 caliber. They use wordplay to control the sheeple.
